civil engineering communication researchLooking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from University of North Carolina to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the latter half of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.
Students in this program/course will discuss natural disasters on Earth and their impact on humans. This will include volcanoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and other catastrophic natural phenomena with emphasis on causes, effects and human adjustments.
Student work will include natural hazard identification and risk assessment, risk communication, hazard mitigation and hazard prediction. Students will also be working on hazard preparedness plans as well as post-disaster response and recovery plans. Students will work in small groups of 3-5 to address a wide range of natural hazard resilience challenges - maybe even your own!
Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.
Some final project deliverables might include:
- A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
- A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations
