Learner goals and capabilities

This capstone course in the MSBA program at Southern Utah University is aimed at enriching student success by giving students an opportunity to use the knowledge, skills and tools they have learned throughout their program to complete a real-world project presented by an an industry partner.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

The project will provide:

  • A concluding presentation outlining the key findings of the research project.
  • A final report detailing the problem, attempted solutions, and results, including benchmarks, if applicable.
  • Any relevant data dashboard, code files and other analyses.
Project Examples

The capstone course provides an opportunity for businesses and learners to collaborate to identify and translate a real business problem into a data analytics problem.

The project can be an end-to-end application, including:

1) Framing the business problem and defining the analytic problem.

2) Acquiring and managing large data sets.

3) Applying modern statistical and machine learning techniques.

4) Identifying and implementing any necessary technology infrastructure.

5) Providing a sustainable management-level solution.

6) Providing data dashboards and relevant data visualization.

7) Evaluation against success criteria and possible methods for deployment.

Project results/ recommendations will be communicated in a final report and a concluding oral presentation.

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Provide a dedicated contact staff member who is available to answer periodic emails, phone calls, and routine check-ins over the duration of the project.

Have a clear understanding and be in possession of data relevant to the project. Data can be accessible or provided free of charge.
