Learner goals and capabilities

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from Sault College to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students in this course will examine issues concerned with the conversion of inputs into goods and services by business and industry. Students will gain insights into how goods and services are provided and will learn how to solve some of the problems that are involved in the field of operations management.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.

Some final project deliverables might include:

  1. A 10-15 minute presentation on key findings and recommendations
  2. A detailed report including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations
Project Examples

Students in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Project activities that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:

  • Illustrate the importance of operations management in the context of an organization's strategic plan. Discuss recent trends that are affecting the way goods and services are being produced.
  • Assess the role of supply chain management, logistics, and inventory strategies to support operational requirements.Discuss the similarities and differences between products and services.
  • Determine the layout for goods and service producers to maximize efficiency and support organizational goals.
  • Assess the impact of product/service design processes and benchmarking on productivity to support the organization's goals.
  • Assess strategies for the scheduling of production and staff which support the most productive operations of a facility.
  • Assess the impact of quality control and quality assurance systems and programs to support the organization's goals.

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Be available for a quick phone/virtual call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address students’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.

Provide an opportunity for students to present their work and receive feedback.

Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project.
