Overview
Learner goals and capabilities

This is a student executed Information Systems project, including requirements, design, documentation, and a fully functional prototype. The project will typically cover the conceptualization, analysis, design, and production of a working, functional prototype of the system which serves as a proof of concept on which a final system may be built.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

The final project deliverables will include:

  1. Project prototype: The expectation is that the project team will deliver a working (functional) prototype that meets the client’s requirements.
  2. Final reports: The team will submit a final report that includes the documents prepared during the development process. This report will include the memorandum of understanding, the statement of work, the technology plan, the feasibility study, use diagrams and use cases, the test plan and results of the testing, and the agendas and minutes from each meeting.
Project Examples

Projects include, but are not limited to: information systems development, prototyping, participative design, project management, database design and management, IS security, systems architecture, usability theory and methods for presentation, and reporting.

  • Determine appropriate matches between IS systems problems and IS tools and techniques.
  • Demonstrate effective leadership in small IS projects
  • Prepare and run project meetings
  • Evaluate and approach design problems from multiple perspectives, including a technical, managerial, and end-user perspective, and understand the trade-offs between these perspectives
  • Demonstrate the ability to make professional presentations and reports by applying learned knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to choose and use appropriate tools for project completion, including computer-based communication tools for team communication and modeling tools for task activities
  • Effectively work in a team, both as a leader and member.
