online communicationLooking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from Sault College to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.
Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.
Some final project deliverables might include:
- Perform fundamental tasks involving the operation of a spreadsheet package, recognizing that many of the same functions are found as in other spreadsheet productions.
- Format a worksheet and work with formulas and functions.
- Create and enhance the representation of financial information with an Excel chart.
- Organize data to provide better financial information to interested users within the organization.
- Manage multiple worksheets and workbooks.
- Develop an excel application.
- Work with financial tools and functions.
- Perform what-if analysis.

Project Examples
In this course, students will have exposure to a comprehensive Windows-based financial spreadsheet package to enhance their problem solving abilities. The package used will be Microsoft Excel 2016 for Windows. The student will use this as a tool to prepare various reports and presentations, and applications which can be transferred in work commonly performed in the modern office. Students will gain hands-on experience in learning and understanding the software, as well as creating and developing spreadsheet applications. Students can complete projects that utilize Microsoft Excel to develop and enhance spreadsheets, charts, data lists, tables, macros and perform what-if analysis, and financial reporting.
Students in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.
Project activities that students can complete using Microsoft Excel may include, but are not limited to:
- prepare various reports and presentations
- applications to offload work commonly performed in the modern office
- creating and developing spreadsheet applications
- develop and enhance spreadsheet tables, macros, and what-if analyses
- financial reporting
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Be available for a quick phone/virtual call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.
Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address students’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.
Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project.
Provide an opportunity for students to present their work and receive feedback.
