Details

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from University of Stirling to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students in this program/course will develop links with practitioners and gain useful experiences. The research placement is supported by an academic supervisor and by a supervisor within the non-academic organisation. The student will have regular meetings with their supervisors throughout the project, but there are no timetabled classes.

Deliverables

Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.

Some final project deliverables might include:

1. A short initial report on the chosen non-academic partner organization; The report will demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between strategic communications and public relations theory and research and the communication challenges facing real-world organisations and The ability to retrieve, interpret, and critically analyse information produced by, or about, non-academic partner organisations and their key stakeholders.

2, Research-led placement focused output. Produce a previously agreed final report on the specific organization/activity undertaken or engaged with.


Project Examples

Students will work individually with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Project activities that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:

  • Using their research skills in a non-academic context;
  • Examining a contemporary strategic communications issue;
  • Learning to work effectively with their supervisory team (academic and non-academic);
  • Negotiating and establishing a work plan and delivering research to deadline and in a format agreed with supervisors.
Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Be available for a quick phone/virtual call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address students’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.

Provide an opportunity for students to present their work and receive feedback.

Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project.
