Are you looking for students to assess and provide input on your airline or airport operations? Teams of students from the BCIT Airport Operations Diploma Program would be eager to work on a practicum project idea and/or capstone project airports:

Hosts: Airline or airport personnel with assistance by BCIT Airport Operations faculty

Project ideas: Student suggested a project related to COVID19 such as how to prepare for a safe airport and airline service post COVID19 – TERMINAL, GROUNDSIDE and AIRSIDE while maintaining customer service and quality.

Note: If you want to access funding for students, it can be done through Canadian Council of Aviation and Aerospace in regards to WIL. If matched with your company, we would be happy to advise on applying for funding. There are also other funding opportunities, such as the federal Student Work Placement Program (SWPP).

These placements do not require payment, but it's at the discretion of the host to provide remuneration or gifts.

Along with a project report that details work undertaken and the methodology to said work, students will present their findings in a (virtual) presentation to your company at the end of the project.

Project Examples

Requirements

The specifics of the project will be based on your company's needs and priorities. Our students are able to work on any of the following aspects of aviation operations:

  • Revising manuals to include COVID19 protocols
  • Airside and Terminal drawings – AutoCAD
  • Wildlife Management Plan – Risk Assessment and wildlife management control activities customized to threats
  • Air Service presentation
  • Retail analysis
  • Hazard Risk Registry - emergency response, apron/ramp operations
  • SMS and the new world of pandemics
  • Quality and Process Improvement in the post COVID19 world
  • Retail strategies in a post COVID19 world
  • Economic Impact study of aviation in the region/province/nation/global
  • Emergency Response Plan e.g. adding Contagious Disease response

Examples of students' work:

Students have developed the following technical manuals; Airport Operations Manual Part I and II, Wildlife Management Plan Part 1 and 2, Security Plan (all parts except Emergency Response section), Airport Emergency Response Plan. The student have created a SWOT/PEST analysis of one of the airports and their communities.
