Senior student consultants will work with your organization to help you identify your goals for technology improvements, and provide direction and consulting on how to achieve these.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Phase 1 – Project Plan: Students will meet with organization representative(s) to devise the project scope and prepare a detailed plan for completion of the project.

Phase 2 – Project Execution: Students will work on deliverables outlined in the project plan. Teams will periodically communicate with organization representative(s) as needed to complete project tasks.

Phase 3 - Outcome - Report and Presentation: Students will submit a detailed report on the outcomes of the project. Teams will also present this in the last class. Organization representative(s) are invited to attend these presentations.

Project Examples

Senior-level University College of Technology student teams will offer strategic tech consulting to your organization. Based on the information your organization provides about goals for tech improvements, the students will provide you with:

  • Practical recommendations for improving your organization, including cost analyses and feasibility analyses
  • Insights into conducting strategic research for the future
  • An unbiased view of your organization, as well as helpful ideas and recommendations

Examples of potential projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Proposing solutions and recommendations for computer information systems, mobile apps, cyber defence, cloud technology, project management, networking, database design or implementation, CRM software, information assurance for large and small clients
  • Gathering requirements and developing specifications
  • Providing Gap Analyses
  • Documenting “As Is” and developing “To Be” solutions
  • Developing RFP (Request for Proposal)
  • Providing technical research for a proposed solution
  • Performing feasibility studies
  • Assisting in documenting new processes and procedures as needed
  • Facilitating testing (if applicable for software or hardware implementation)
  • Promoting user acceptance of new processes/systems
  • Developing training plans
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Make available those records, files, and financial statements that the team and you agree are necessary to complete their project.

Be available to the student team members at the times you and they mutually agreed upon (virtually).

Be available to meet with the students a minimum of 2 times during the semester (virtually).

Sign the DU-Client Course Based Project Agreement and the Letter of Engagement with the students.
