Overview
Learner goals and capabilities

Is there a legal topic of interest to you and your business? A second year business law student will research applicable laws and present you with a report on how they may potentially affect you.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

The final project deliverable is a 7-10 page report giving an overview of the applicable law. The report can’t be used in lieu of legal advice. However, the report can be useful to a business person in conjunction with specific legal advice from appropriately certified legal advisers.

Project Examples

A student-consultant will research and solve (or report on) a legal question or issue of your choice. The topic can be related to any area of business law, including but not limited to the following:

  • How trade laws could impact your business's exports
  • Employment law and its impact on your employment of contract workers
  • The intellectual property rights on your technology
  • How antitrust laws may impact your future business decisions
  • Improving your contracts with customers through analysis of contract law
  • Any specific statute or regulation, such as the Foreign Corrupt Trade Practices Act or Freedom of Information Act

The students are able to look at laws pertaining to any specific state. This project is open to business across the United States.
