Learner goals and capabilities

George Brown College's Business Administration program offers first-year students an opportunity to develop their written communication skills through our "Communications Across Contexts" course. These students are eager to apply their learning in real-world contexts, focusing on purpose, audience, and context to inform, persuade, or entertain. The course emphasizes equity and anti-racism, ensuring learners engage with diverse and meaningful topics.

As an employer, you are expected to maintain regular communication with the students, provide guidance and necessary information for the project, be virtually present at the final presentation, and offer constructive feedback through the Riipen platform.

Project Examples

Our ideal projects are those that allow students to engage with real community issues, develop their persuasive writing skills, and produce content that promotes equity and anti-racism. Below are some examples of projects that would be a strong fit:

  1. Community Outreach Email Campaign: Develop a series of emails for a non-profit organization focused on social justice, aiming to raise awareness and mobilize community support.
  2. Public Awareness Articles: Write persuasive essays for local newspapers on issues impacting the community, such as housing, education, or public health.
  3. Corporate Diversity Communication: Create internal communication materials for a company’s CSR department to promote diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  4. Social Media Content Plan: Design a social media strategy for a community organization to increase engagement and awareness on key issues.
  5. Educational Outreach Material: Develop communication materials for a local school or educational body to engage parents and students on important topics.
