Overview
Details

Virtual Internship Opportunity: Bring on a team of students from the Department of Applied Human Sciences at Concordia University to be your virtual interns, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one projects per team of your choosing over the Capstone, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students are available for placement by September 26th. The Students are a non-remunerated learning experience for which the students will receive credit.

The Student Intern will develop and implement a project that requires them to gain an understanding of the organization's functions and will result in positive change for the system. This process will include a needs assessment(s) and the design, implementation, an evaluation of a program and/or process facilitation of strategic objectives.

Deliverables

Deliverables will vary depending on the scope of the project. The student should complete 20-25 hours with your organization by November 28th 2023. Student interns will create a contract that will specify client/student roles and responsibilities and project deliverables.

Project Examples

Students can complete a substantial project for your organization over the placement period. We suggest providing a starting project, but as the placement goes on there may be other duties or projects the student is asked to complete as well. Providing a central project creates structure for the internship, and gives the student (and company) a tangible goal.

Students need to engage in work that relates to their human relations training and expertise. Two specific areas of interest are:

  • Group Program where interns are required to design/develop, implement, and evaluate a program that could focus on specific training, group development, community development/social innovation, strategic planning and facilitation.
  • Research Project where the intern can develop and implement research activity or a research project that will require him/her to collect data, analyze it, and work with the client in order to support a change project that will benefit the organization.

Past project examples that students have completed include, but are not limited to:

  • Data collection around a new vision and service delivery for an organization that collects and re-distributes food in an urban setting.
  • Needs assessment and recommendations to an organization that promotes the distribution of health information to an immigrant population.
  • Data gathering and creation of a series of introductory explanatory handbooks for new people coming into an organization to do their placements.
  • Researching and developing an Anti-Bullying Program for a school.
  • Research and documentation of an organization’s historical artefacts and oral history in order to begin a conversation about themselves and how they are evolving over the years.
  • Reorganization the social and physical activities of a private CHSLD residence with a needs assessment for each resident.
  • Creation and optimization of organizations onboarding processes.

The Capstone experiences are a non-remunerated learning experience for which the students will receive credits.

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

The organization supervisor is available to provide one-to-one supervisory sessions to the Capstone student at a ratio of 1 hour supervision/ 10 internship hours (e.g. if the student is working 10 hours per week, then the student and supervisor will hold a supervisory meeting once each month). There is flexibility in internship hours and concomitantly, organization supervisory hours.

The organization supervisor will complete a mid-term evaluation half-way through the internship and a final evaluation when the internship is completed, and will send these evaluations to the university supervisor.

The organization placement site supervisor is an individual who works at the organization 25 hours or more per week and has a relevant degree and/or experience in the field.

The Professor supervisor will liaise with the organization by Zoom to ensure the student is able to work with a group and conduct an organizational project. As well, she will be available throughout the internship to respond to concerns or questions.

Companies are welcome to interview students in a pre-contracting and contracting process. Please note: students are available to begin this project process in September 2023.
