What is the main goal for this project?

srsti.art is a platform designed to empower artists in a world where AI has the potential to blur lines of creative ownership. We're building tools for artists to set terms for their work's use, connect with ethical AI companies, advocate for policy changes, and––crucially––form a strong, supportive community.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?
  • User Experience (UX) Design:
  • Optimize website design for intuitive artist signups and profile creation.
  • Develop features that encourage interaction and collaboration between artists.
  • Design engaging data visualization of artist concerns and platform insights.
  • Community Building & Outreach:
  • Develop strategies for attracting visual artists, musicians, and other creatives.
  • Craft compelling social media content that amplifies artists' voices and stories.
  • Design forums, resource sharing areas, or events (virtual or in-person) to foster a sense of belonging among artists on the platform.
  • AI Trend Analysis & Implications:
  • Research emerging AI tools and their potential impact (positive or negative) on artists.
  • Explore future AI style analysis features for srsti.art.
  • Educate artists on complex AI concepts through clear guides and presentations.
  • Legal & Policy Landscape:
  • Investigate current copyright law gaps in relation to AI and artist work.
  • Identify existing advocacy groups for potential collaborative efforts.
  • Propose potential policy changes to protect artists in the AI era.

Deliverables

  • Research Reports & Presentations: Clearly document findings and recommendations.
  • Wireframes/Mockups: Visualize UX improvements and potential features.
  • Social Media & Outreach Plan: Include sample content and target audience analysis.
  • Community Building Strategy: Proposals for forums, events, resource sharing.
  • Policy Proposal Outline: Key arguments for change, supported by evidence.

Timeline

  • Flexible depending on course length (e.g., one semester, multi-semester project).
  • Regular check-ins with srsti.art founder to provide guidance and feedback.

Why This Project Matters

  • Real-World Impact: Contribute to a platform safeguarding the future of artistic expression and fostering a thriving community for creators.
  • Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Bridge design, tech, ethics, potentially law, and community-focused strategies.
  • Tackle a Cutting-Edge Issue: Shape the evolving conversation around AI and the importance of supporting artists.

Skills Developed

  • UX design, user research, data analysis, strategic communication, community building, legal research, policy analysis, foresight methodologies (depending on student focus).

Ideal Candidates

  • Passionate about art, technology, and/or social justice.
  • Strong interest in fostering community and creating spaces for collaboration.
  • Self-starters with strong research, problem-solving, and communication skills.

How will you support learners in completing the project?

My Role as srsti.art Founder

  • Dedicated Mentorship: I'll schedule regular check-ins with student teams or individuals. This is for brainstorming, troubleshooting, providing feedback on deliverables, and answering questions.
  • Real-World Context: I'll share insights on srsti.art's mission, challenges faced by artists, and the startup landscape. This helps ground the project beyond theoretical concepts.
  • Platform Access: Students will have access to the backend of srsti.art to gain a deeper understanding of existing features and user flow.
  • Data Sharing: I'll provide anonymized data (if available) from artist sign-ups, survey results, etc. This offers tangible material for analysis.

Additional Support

  • Tool Recommendations: I'll suggest free or student-accessible resources for:
  • UX Design: Wireframing tools (Figma, Balsamiq, etc.)
  • Community Building: Guides for social media strategy and online forum design.
  • Data Visualization: Accessible platforms to create impactful presentations.
  • Tech Consultations (if possible): If I have contacts within my network, I can potentially arrange short consultations with developers for technical questions on potential feature implementation.
  • Introducing Guest Speakers: Depending on the focus area, I might invite other artists, legal experts, or small startup founders to give interviews with the students

Important Considerations

  • Project Scope: The level of support might need adjustment based on the number of students involved and the timeline.
  • Student Autonomy: My primary goal is to empower students to take ownership of their contributions. I'll provide guidance, but encourage independent research and solution-finding.

What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

UX design, user research, data analysis, strategic communication, community building, legal research, policy analysis, foresight methodologies (depending on student focus).
