What is the main goal for this project?

Our organization is looking to create new promotional materials in the form of a series of videos to promote our brand and get people to attend an event in New York City on June 23rd. We want the videos to be simple but effective, using stock images and video clips to tell a story using a voiceover. Based on our promotional goals, students will script and record a professional voiceover, and edit videos to convey our message.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Consulting with the project manager to understand the goals and messages for the promotional video.
  • Creating a script for each voiceover and video.
  • Recording the voiceovers for each video.
  • Editing and producing the visual and audio components of each video.
  • Posting and/or scheduling posts
  • Planning types of campaign content to create for each channel.
  • Creating a social media content calendar that outlines important steps in the campaign.

Bonus steps in the process would also include:

  • Creating an intro/outro for the videos with our logo.
  • Interacting with local social media accounts to generate buzz and get people to interact with our posts
What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

By the end of the project, students should complete the following list of activities (this is basically a retelling of the steps above):

  • Consulted with the project manager to understand the goals for the project and videos.
  • Created a script for each voiceover and video.
  • Recorded the voiceovers for each video
  • Edited and produced each video.
  • Planned types of campaign content to create for each channel
  • Created a social media calendar and scheduled posts where possible to reach peak engagement

Bonus steps would include:

  • Created an intro/outro for the videos with our logo.
  • Interacted with enough other accounts to create buzz on our own.

Final deliverables should include

  • A series of videos including a brand promotional video, recruitment video, recognition video, event video, social media video, and a commercial.
  • Social media calendar and proof that the posts are scheduled
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Who is the target audience for each video?
  • What important information needs to be included in each video?
  • Are there any specific editing techniques we want to be used?
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.
What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, students can self-teach, but it is beneficial to be familiar with:

  • Video and media production.
  • Scripting.
  • Illustration.
  • Marketing.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with iMovie, Final Cut Pro or other video editing softwares.

Again, students can complete this project without any of the prior knowledge listed here. Students will be expected to research and learn more about this above as the project goes along.
