Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

Hugo Coffee sells coffee products online and is a company with a mission to support animal rescues and sanctuaries. We had 2 brands: Hugo Coffee and Fluffy Cow Coffee. This project is for Fluffy Cow Coffee.


We fulfill our mission via our e-com sales. I need to understand WHO is buying our products, WHY they are buying our products, WHY customers buy repeatedly vs once, and as much information as I can about our consumer and target market.


Then, with that information, I need to TARGET and ENGAGE with our consumers to increase (1) frequency of purchases, (2) average order value (AOV), and (3) subscriptions.


We would like to work with students to design a new email marketing campaign for Fluffy Cow Coffee.


This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Familiarizing themselves with our company’s products, email marketing campaign goals and target market.
  • Identifying types of emails and content that our company should send out such as welcome emails, newsletters, and re-engagement emails.
  • Researching factors affecting the effectiveness of email marketing such as when emails are sent and making recommendations.
  • Identifying metrics to monitor throughout the campaign.

Bonus steps in the process would also include:

  • Identifying ways to personalize emails for customers based on market segmentation.
What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of our consumer
  • Identification of suitable email types and content
  • Understanding of factors affecting emails’ effectiveness
  • Identification of metrics to monitor the campaign’s success

Bonus steps would include:

  • Recommending strategies to personalize emails

Final deliverables should include

  • A 10-minute presentation
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Students will connect directly with us for mentorship throughout the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Our current products and email marketing
  • Our customer and industry insights
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.
What skills or technologies will help learners to complete the project?

In order to complete this project, students can self-teach, but it is beneficial to be familiar with:

  • Email marketing and, specifically, Mailchimp, Klayvio and Shopify.

Again, students can complete this project without any of the prior knowledge listed here. Students will be expected to research and learn more about the above as the project goes along.

Hugo Coffee Roasters is a female founded and certified coffee roasting company located in Park City, Utah whose mission is to save animals by roasting and selling fantastic, fair-trade, organic coffee nationwide. We have 2 brands: Hugo Coffee products support companion animal rescues and Fluffy Cow Coffee products support farm animal sanctuaries. We fulfill our mission via weekly, weeklong online fundraisers benefitting a specific rescue or sanctuary whereby we donate $2.50 for every item sold on the website during the course of the week. After the fundraiser, the beneficiary organization is part of our affiliate program and continues to receive donations year long.
