Details

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from University of North Dakota to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.


Students in this program/course are capable of designing a preliminary project to analyze or suggest solutions for a real geological engineering problem to help industry company to understanding of geologic concepts, environmental issues, and geologic hazards associated with engineering.




Deliverables

Deliverables:


1) A PowerPoint presentation including project objective, engineering problem, methods of solving, and conclusion.


Outcome:

1) Demonstrated clear selection, identification, and depiction of a geological engineering problem. 2) Clearly identified the central question(s) in need of project. 3) Clearly identified the appropriate hypotheses to test/calculation/derivation/equation. 4) Explained data processing methods clearly.

Project Examples

Students in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.


Project activities that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:


 

  • Proficiency in the identification of minerals and rocks and their corresponding properties associated with engineering issues.
  • Identifying geological engineering problems and solutions in real world situations and their impact on society and the environment.


**Please note that we are looking for an employer that is willing to work alongside students on the project to solve a geological/environmental problem.




Required questions to apply

Companies must answer the following custom questions in order to apply to this experience:

Be available for a quick phone/virtual call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Provide a dedicated contact person who is available for weekly/bi-weekly drop-ins to address students’ questions as well as periodic messages over the duration of the project.

Provide an opportunity for students to present their work and receive feedback.

Provide relevant information/data as needed for the project.

Agree to work alongside students to work on given project to solve a geological/environmental problem
