Overview
Details

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from National University to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of twelve-week course, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Capstone Projects are intensive experiences in critical analysis, designed to broaden students’ perspectives and provide an opportunity for integration of coursework in the area of specialization. The Capstone Project requires careful planning, implementation, and teamwork. The Capstone Project is intended to demonstrate the student’s ability to carry out independent scholarly research, to draw logical conclusions from data gathered, and to present the results in a clear, intelligible, and consistent form, in keeping with the established convention of the scholastic community.

Deliverables

Deliverables are negotiable, and will seek to align the needs of the students and the organization.

Some final project deliverables include:

  1. A 15-30 minute project proposal presentation after the first four weeks.
  2. A detailed project report or master's thesis including their research, analysis, insights and recommendations at the end of all twelve weeks.
Project Examples

Capstone Projects are done in teams of two or three students (maximum of 4) enrolled in the capstone classes which last twelve weeks in total.

Students will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

The items students complete for the first four weeks of the capstone process, are as follows:

• Demonstrate technical presentation skills to propose a data science research plan and timeline to project advisors and stakeholders orally and in a project proposal.

• Assess the resources essential to successful project outcomes including data sources and technical resources.

• Propose the correct methodology to solving a complex problem in data science.

The items students complete for the second four weeks of the capstone process, are as follows:

• Integrate data acquisition, cleaning, mining, modeling, and visualization components of data science to produce knowledge-based solutions for real-world challenges using public or private data sources.

• Present project progress to advisors and stakeholders in weekly project reports.

• Begin to implement the correct methodology to solve a complex data science project.

The items students complete for the third four weeks of the capstone process, are as follows:

• Complete implementation of the correct methodology to solving a complex problem in data science.

• Complete integration of data cleaning, mining, modeling, and visualization components of data science to produce knowledge-based solutions for real-world challenges using public and private data sources.

• Formally present a complete project to advisors and stakeholders in a master's thesis or project report.
