University of Detroit Mercy is the only university in the world that combines the centuries-old commitment to education of the Society of Jesus and the Religious Sisters of Mercy. Software Engineering: Designing and Building Practical Solutions

In this course, students are introduced to core software engineering principles and practices, including system design, requirements gathering, agile development, testing, and software quality. They gain hands-on experience in developing complete software systems while learning to apply industry best practices across the development lifecycle. Students have experience in object-oriented design, system modeling, component reuse, and software project management. They are comfortable working with the following: Java, NodeJS for backend  JavaFX, Swing, HTML, CSS, JS for frontend SQL, MongoDB for Database Management Android (Limited experience) for Mobile app development Git and GitHub for Version Control These students can support your organization by designing user-friendly systems, implementing backend and frontend components, testing for quality and security, and improving existing applications or processes. You’ll be working with teams that are learning to think critically, work collaboratively, and build with purpose. Open to partners from both the USA and Canada.

Working with Associate Professor Mariam Faied on the North Carolina High School Robotics Competition Framework project was a highly positive experience. Professor Faied provided strong guidance and support that helped her students stay organized, focused, and engaged throughout the project. Her leadership encouraged creative problem-solving, collaboration, and hands-on learning, enabling the students to prototype robots capable of building structures for middle school robotics competitions. Professor Faied maintained clear communication, offered constructive feedback, and ensured that the students had the structure needed to succeed while fostering their independence and critical thinking skills. Her commitment to experiential learning was evident and greatly contributed to the project’s success.
