Graduate-level students from the Smith School of Business will spend 6 months acting as consultants on a challenge or opportunity your organization is facing and provide analysis and recommendations.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Phase 1 – Project Plan: Students will meet with your organization's representative(s) to devise the project scope and prepare a detailed plan for completion of the project.

Phase 2 – Project Execution: Students will work on deliverables outlined in the project plan. They will periodically communicate with your organization's representative(s) as needed to complete project tasks.

Phase 3 - Outcome - Report: Students will provide your organization with a management 10+ page consulting report at the conclusion of the project, detailing their research, analyses and actionable recommendations.

Project Examples

Starting this May, either individually or in groups of 2 , MBA students from Queen's University will spend 100 hours each over six months on a consulting challenge of your choosing.

Based on your objectives, under instructor mentorship, Master's students will conduct research, analyze the issue, and provide recommendations to address it.

Possible areas of focus could include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing a five-year growth strategy.
  • Using data analytics to solve or make recommendations on a given problem.
  • Creating and implementing a new systematic framework.
  • Investigating and recommending a product or service expansion opportunity.
  • Developing financial feasibility models.
  • Creating marketing plans or strategies.

*Note: Due to the volume of project applications this class receives, it is a competitive process and companies will be selected by students.

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Be available for periodic phone calls and emails from the students.

Have a first initial meeting with the student group to discuss the work they will be doing.

Provide any relevant data the students need to complete the project

Assign a dedicated contact person to provide information, answer questions throughout the project, and receive status updates

Minimum of 2-4 interactions with the students in-person or remotely (approximately 4-6 hours over the duration of the project).
