marketing planning marketing communications marketing secondary research primary research zoom (video conferencing tool)This third-year undergraduate Marketing Planning course partners learner teams with established organizations to develop a practical, implementation-ready marketing plan.
Learners will:
- Conduct structured secondary research (industry, competitors, customers, macro-environment)
- Analyze the organization’s current marketing strategy and performance
- Identify key strategic issues and opportunities
- Develop clear target market and positioning recommendations
- Create actionable marketing objectives (SMART)
- Develop integrated marketing mix or communications strategies
- Provide an implementation roadmap and budget allocation recommendations
- Present strategic recommendations professionally to organizational stakeholders
Primary research will NOT be conducted. All analysis will be based on secondary research and materials provided by the organization.
Learner Profile
- Undergraduate – 3rd year (Marketing major)
- Intermediate level
- Teams of 5 learners
- ~50 hours per learner (≈250 team hours total)
Industry Partner Responsibilities (Non-Negotiable)
To ensure project success, partner organizations must:
- Provide a clear business challenge or objective
- Share relevant background materials (sales data, past marketing efforts, brand guidelines, etc.)
- Assign a dedicated point of contact
- Respond to student communications within 2 business days when possible
- Attend:
- Kickoff meeting (45–60 minutes)
- Midpoint feedback session (45 minutes)
- Final presentation (60 minutes)
- Provide constructive feedback using the evaluation criteria provided
- Clarify confidentiality expectations and NDA requirements (if applicable)
Up to 4 teams are assigned per project, and individual deliverables are provided per team.

Comprehensive Marketing Plan (15–25 pages)
Includes:
- Executive summary
- Situation analysis (industry, competitors, SWOT)
- Target market definition
- Positioning strategy
- Marketing objectives (SMART)
- Marketing mix strategy (4Ps/7Ps as applicable)
- Budget allocation framework
- Implementation timeline
- Key performance indicators (KPIs)
Presentation
- 20-minute strategic presentation delivered via Zoom
- Slide deck (shared in soft copy)
- Final written report (PDF or Word)
